Tailored Lessons To
Meet Your Goals And Needs
Improve Your Performance
I am here to coach you and help you become the best performer you can be. Through practice, preparation, visualization and choreography I'll help you take your playing to the next level.
Become an Independent Learner
We will use classical music in our approach to learning the violin and viola. When you have gained all the skills you need to learn music on your own you will have an opportunity to explore different genres and styles of music. With diligent practice this can easily happen in the first year of you playing this instrument.
Filling in Gaps or Expanding Knowledge
I'll help you assess where you are in your playing and fill in any gaps there may be in your reading, technique, music theory and/or music history.
ASTA Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP)
ASTACAP seeks to establish definite goals and awards for students of all levels through non-competitive examinations. Students are judged on technical and musical preparedness at specific levels (foundation– level 10) by an ASTA examiner of musical and pedagogical stature. A certificate of achievement is awarded for each level successfully completed.
Frequently Asked
Questions
How Should I Prepare For My First Lesson?
Your first lesson will be an exciting one. We will get you set up so you know how to practice standing TALL like a tree. We will also learn all the parts of the violin and the bow.
The first lesson will set the tone for the first year of lessons where your young student gains valuable skills. While the pace may seem slow, eventually learning will progress quickly. Enjoy this time and take it as an opportunity to practice patience and help your child develop discipline. These are skills they will need, not only in future lessons, but in life.
If you do not have a violin that is OK. We will talk about it at this lesson.
Where Should I Purchase My Violin
I recommend a beginner student rent a violin and personally I prefer Shar Music Online. Or you can look at renting from a local violin shop near you. If purchasing a violin is something you are serious about I would suggest checking out the Franz Hoffmann Violins which you can purchase on Amazon.com. These violins come ready to play and have a nice tone at an affordable price.
What Size Violin Should I Purchase?
There are many easily accessible diagrams online to help assist you in measuring for the correct violin size. If you find this to be too tricky I would suggest visiting your local violin shop so a pro can help set you up.
Playing in an Ensemble
All my students are encouraged to join an ensemble or orchestra to help them grow in their musicianship. The social skills and professionalism they will learn will benefit them in college and as adults.
String ensembles offer many opportunities for personal growth and are a great way to help motivate young musicians. I can recount wonderful experiences of developing new friendships, traveling, performing and soloing with ensembles I have been a part of.
ASTA Certificate Advancement Program
All of my students are highly encouraged to be involved in ASTACAP examination. The ASTA Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP) seeks to establish definite goals and awards for students of all levels through non-competitive examinations. Students are judged on technical and musical preparedness at specific levels (foundation – level 10) by an ASTA examiner of musical and pedagogical stature. A certificate of achievement is awarded for each level successfully completed.

- Use in any teaching tradition

- Examination by highly experienced, respected instructional specialists

Competition/ Performance Track
As a musician I encourage all my students to take what they have learned in our lessons and apply it. If they are interested in Rock or Jazz music I will be thrilled to learn that they are searching for music and practicing on their own. Seeing this type of motivation in a student brings me joy.
There may be a student that wants to take his or her musical training to the next level and perform much more than the average student. This would provide a student with a wonderful opportunity to explore his or her instrument at a competitive level. Competition is not for everyone but when a family and student are serious it can be a wonderful opportunity and may open many doors.
